articles of faith
Scriptures
We believe the Holy Bible is the inspired Word of God, without any error, the all-sufficient authority in matters of faith, doctrine, and Christian living.
Trinity
We believe in one God, eternally existing in three Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Virgin birth/conception
We believe in the Virgin Birth (conception) of Jesus Christ and that He is totally God and man without the diminishing of either nature in a state that is known as the Hypostatic Union.
Jesus and His payment on the cross
We believe Jesus was without sin and died on the cross for the sins of the whole world and is therefore, willing to save all who call upon Him for salvation.
Resurrection of Jesus
We believe Jesus rose bodily from the dead and ascended into heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father and to serve alone, as the believer’s High Priest and Advocate.
Man’s creation and fall
We believe that man was created in the image of God as male and female and was in an original state of innocence but fell into sin, became separated from God eternally, and is in need of salvation.
Salvation
We believe that only through faith in Christ alone and spiritual rebirth that comes through the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit can an individual be saved from eternal damnation and be adopted into the family/kingdom of God.
Man’s works have no part in salvation
We believe that eternal salvation is the gift of God, is received entirely apart from man's works, and is possessed by any who have faith in and receive Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.
Baptism of the Holy Spirit
We believe that the believer receives the Holy Spirit at the moment of conversion and is sealed for salvation to the coming of the Lord. We do not believe any special “manifestation of a spiritual gift” is necessary for evidence of the individual’s having received the Holy Spirit.
The “full” work of salvation
- Justification: is the redemption of the spirit and is the immediate effect of salvation and guarantees the individual’s eternal salvation.
- Sanctification: is the redemption of the soul and begins immediately at the moment of salvation as the indwelling Holy Spirit begins conforming the individual’s life to the image of Christ. This spiritual growth/transformation can be helped or hindered by the individual’s own obedience/disobedience. All believers will be judged at the Judgment Seat of Christ to receive rewards or the lack thereof based upon their level of sanctification.
- Glorification: is the redemption of the body which is guaranteed by salvation/justification and will be fully realized at the resurrection.
The body of Christ and local church
We believe all regenerated/born again individuals are part of the worldwide/eternal body of Christ and that only those individuals are eligible for membership in the local church, a local expression of the universal body of Christ/church.
Membership in the local church
We believe all persons seeking membership in the local church must be mature enough to understand their need for Jesus Christ and their need to receive Him as their personal Lord and Savior and are able to articulate that to the satisfaction of church leadership and have been baptized by immersion after conversion.
Baptism
We believe Believer’s Baptism is an ordinance of the church and is only Scriptural in that it is by total immersion after individual salvation.
Lord’s Supper/Communion
We believe the Lord's Supper/Communion is an ordinance of the church and as such, is a memorial of Christ’s suffering and death on the cross.
We believe the ordinances of Believer’s Baptism and the Lord’s Supper/Communion, though important to the believer’s obedience and sanctification, are not efficacious to salvation/justification.
We believe the ordinances of Believer’s Baptism and the Lord’s Supper/Communion, though important to the believer’s obedience and sanctification, are not efficacious to salvation/justification.
Rapture of the church
We believe the personal, imminent, and glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ for believers/church, known commonly as the Rapture of the church, will occur before the seven years of Great Tribulation – as prophesied/explained by Daniel the Prophet and Jesus Christ. (We recognize there are other orthodox positions and do not consider this point a test for membership.)
Second Coming of Christ
We believe that Christ will return bodily at the end of the Great Tribulation at His Second Advent/Coming and will at that time judge the nations, establish His earthly kingdom on earth that will last for 1000 years, after which He will judge the unrighteous at the Great White Throne judgment.
Resurrection
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead, the judgement of believers at the Judgment Seat of Christ, the judgement of the unsaved at the Great White Throne, the everlasting blessedness of the saved in heaven, and the everlasting punishment and separation from God of the unsaved in hell.
Autonomy of the local church
We believe in the autonomy of the local church, and as such, believe the local church possesses the authority to manage its own affairs and shall not be subject to any other religious body or organization; other than any overarching organization it may choose.
Marriage
We believe marriage is between one biological man and one biological woman and that any other marriage is sinful – and furthermore, reject all other definitions or requests for marriage. (Therefore, we disavow marriage ceremonies other than those of a biological male to a biological female.)
Baptist Faith and Message
For further explanation of our beliefs, we subscribe to the “Baptist Faith and Message” as adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention in 1963.
